Saadani National Park

Saadani is located 225 km north of Dar es Salaam and it merges with Seleous and Mikumi, this is among the rare coastal park where it’s said that the bush meets the beach. From this spectacular view, the park has got a unique environment which is full of grasslands, forest plus the shores of the Indian Ocean.

The park covers an area of 1100km² and it was gazetted in 2005, The park has got a tropical hot climate with an average temperature of 25-27°C  which is received all year round with 30 °C daytime and 20-24 °C night-time.

What to Do

Game drives, most of the games such as zebra, buffalo, elephant, warthog, giraffe, wildebeest and water buck are present and also visitors get a chance of seeing the different types of hartebeest, the big-eyed Rondo Galago plus the sable antelope. Visitors with nice cameras can enjoy capturing during game drives and wilderness walks. Mostly hard to see are the lions, spotted hyenas and the leopards. The beaches in Saadani are also an important nesting ground for the endangered marine green turtle.

Saadani beach, most of the visitors who enjoy beaching can get entertained from Saadani which is referred to a paradise where beach life meets wilderness. Visitors get a chance to plunge into the Indian Ocean after their safaris and they enjoy the blue water. They also enjoy display of both marine and mainland flora and fauna in a naturally fascinating setting.  For visitors on holidays, this park makes it an alternative place.

Boat safaris on the Wami River, tourists can take a boat cruise on the Wami River  and this supplements to the fun after a wide game walk on game drive; while on the boat, viewing the fascinating geographical features of the park is a must plus the true residents to water such as the  hippo, crocodile and flamingo.

 Bird watching, Bird watchers also enjoy the park due to the vast bird species of which some are true residents and others are migratory birds that love the shore. These include sandpiper, Eurasian oyster catcher and the common greenshank among others.
