This is considered to be the premiering national park which was formed after merging the two game reserves of Zungurma and Borgu in 1976 but is was fully gazetted as a national park in 1979 after various discussions. This is found in the state of Kwara and it covers around 3929km² mainly of savannah forest.
The park has got two regions of which Zugurma region which covers a total land area of 1370km². Visitors get a chance to tour the man- made lake “Kainji Dam”. This is where the voyager, that’s Mungo park experience from the great grief of 1805. And this is the reason as to why this lake was constructed to conceal the accident scene.
The lake within the park is 136km long and this is contains the great dam which can be toured by all the visitors after acquiring authority from the Nigeria Electric Power Authority. Also arrangements to the lake can be done from Borgu Game Reserve office and fishing can also be done while at the lake
The park is highly a populated with the big five giving a good experience to the visitors with other mammals such as the baboons, roan antelopes, jackals, monkeys, hartebeest, antelopes and crocodiles though the park is open from December to June while experiencing only the wilderness of the park.
The gorgeous water features and rampant bird life puts this park a step above the rest. The accommodation at the park includes 49 standard chalets and a conference facility which can host 140 people.
