Bugungu Wildlife Reserve is a lovely small reserve protecting an area of savanna and seasonal swamp lying at the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment to the west of Murchison Falls National Park.
The reserve protects a good number of wild animals significantly over 1200 head of Oribi, 600 Uganda Kobs, and substantial population of leopard, buffalo, warthog, hippo, reed buck, sitatunga, water buck, bush buck, dik-dik, black and white Colobus monkeys, baboons etc.
Roughly there are 240 bird species that have been recorded in the area including the Abyssinian ground horn bill, shoe bill and saddle billed stork.
