Mutanda Lake is located in the southwestern parts of Uganda in the districts of Kisoro; Lake Mutanda is approximately 20km north of Kisoro town from the district headquarters. From Kampala the capital city of Uganda, its approximately 454km by road, the lake has got fresh waters and it is one of the best fresh water bodies Uganda has got. The lake is nested in the foothills of the Virunga mountain ranges at an altitude of 1800m above sea level.
Visit the islands found on the lake which will give you a nice clear view of the three extinct volcanoes of Mount Gahinga, Muhavura and mount Sabyinyo. This is another one stop choice for the visitors to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park after a long day gorilla trekking activity. The lake is surrounded by wetlands and forests that give the place a cool environment suitable for staying and visit.
