Best Road Trip Routes With 4×4 Rooftop Tent in Kenya

We rented a 4×4 Land cruiser with a rooftop tent with clear windows for watching the animals in the National Parks, which made the safari unheard of and worth it! The safari route started from Nairobi taking us to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for the elephant experience. For us to experience the elephant orphanage, we had to reserve a ticket months before the actual visit.

It is only one time a day between 11am and noon and a limited number of tourists can see, how the keepers feed the small elephants. We made sure we got in with the first people to stay in front at the fence. First, they showed a little rhino and then it got really cute, because a lot of baby elephants run to the keepers to get their feeding bottle. You can also adopt an elephant. It is really worth the money we paid to visit this animal orphanage centre.

After we had to look for a market where to shop the local cooking items and camped at Jungle Junction in the south of Nairobi. Prepared a meal and enjoyed our rooftop tent services. It was so simple to raise since it was fixed up on the car. We comfortably slept on the inbuilt mattresses which we soft and before we would start another journey, we would first lay our beds and we did not find any hustle to lay again at the next stopover.

Our next stop was Hell’s Gate National Park. In this park, we were allowed to jump out of the car and discover the National Park by bike or by foot since there are no lions and elephants making it very safe for people. This was the only place, where we could camp directly in the National Park.

Naiburta Campsite, located on a little hill, had such a great view and we had a wonderful sunrise and sunset. We had to prepare our own meals, good enough our rooftop tent service was fully equipped with every thing we needed to cook. A guide at the canyon showed us where Lion King and Tomb Raider was filmed.

We took a 4hours’ drive from Hells to Masai Mara national park where we spent a number of days maximizing its wildlife encounters. It’s incredible for wildlife photography but also the landscape with the big yellow grass and the alone-standing trees is stunning! We spent a few days there, driving on different roads every time! I loved the thousands of small off-road tracks through deep grass and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets behind the trees.

It’s nice to be able to drive through the National Park on your own and worth an experience. We visited different Masai villages and learnt about their tradition. I loved their dances and the songs as well as the Mara dressing to the extent that I had to buy mi self a Mara clothe. With the service of a guide, you will fully maximize your safari since they know all the parts of the park.

We fully enjoyed the Mara river crossing of the wildebeest and this is the most beautiful activity you may not wish to miss. Actually, it’s a wildebeest migration joined by zebras; they work together as a team. The wildebeest are really great at smelling but they can’t see very well, the zebras have good eyes but can’t smell that good. So, both of them need each other in order to escape the predators waiting at the river banks as well as the crocodiles in the water waiting for a meal.

Our next stop was Amboseli National Park with clear views for Kilimanjaro Mountain. The Park itself is known for the huge population of elephants. Since there are no animals that are dangerous for elephants, you can see a lot of very old and very young members in the families. Most of the elephant research is in Amboseli National Park, since you can watch the social behaviour in these families very well.

We took off to Tsavo West known for incredible wildlife and you can find all animals here, including lions, cheetahs and leopards! It is marked by a number of rocky outcrops and volcanic hills. Tsavo West National Park’s landscape is dominated by giant baobabs reputed to live a thousand years

one of the first things you see in the park is Shetani lava flow which is quite special and spectacular. We also saw the five almost identical cone-shaped hills located in one area and resembling one another. The scenery is stunning a low ridge of black lava outcrop, long luscious grass and conical hills that make the Five Sisters.

We winded up the trip with a rest at the beach. Diani Beach is a relaxed, laid-back place, with only a few things to do. we had a great time in Diani and it’s a nice way to end a safari trip through Kenya at the beach! Diani Beach is also known for kite surfing, since the wind is very consistent. Transferred to Mombasa by a ferry and returned the car to the service provider and took a flight back home.
