Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly one of the best wildlife sanctuary in the world, the park has got unique natural beauty and scientific value to the economy and the people of Tanzania and the tourists at large, the park’s power is in with its more than 1.5m wildebeest. The park seats on 14,763km² stretching north to Kenya and bordering Lake Victoria to the West. And it was gazetted in 1951 this is among the Tanzania’s oldest and largest park with a lot of interesting games and wonders.

The park also receives two rainfall peaks with November and December and the long and heavier rains in March – May.  The park’s receives a mean maximum temperature which is the same throughout the year and it’s constant around 27 to 28ᵒC at Seronera. The park’s vegetation

Serengeti national park harbours an unaltered wildebeest migration in the wild where over 1million wildebeest and other wild animal crosses the Seronera river valley from Kenya’s Masai Mara national park to this park. The best time for enjoying this amazing migration is between October and December, this massive migration not only entail wildebeest only, but even a number of Gazelles plus  a thousands of zebra which accompany them in their great trek to Serengeti and then back to Masai Mara in Kenya in search for pasture seasonally.

This is the park where one can see one and more animals at a time, Among the other noted animals within the park includes the big five such as the East African lion, African bush elephant, African leopard, Eastern Black rhinoceros and the African buffaloes. And the other animals including the warthogs, Masai giraffe, elands, cheetahs, zebras and the topis and the list is endless and it’s said that it depends on the viewers physical fitness and the level of enthusiasms one has. Lots of bird species around, Serengeti national park has got a great ornithological interest with about 500 bird species including the Masai ostrich, secretary bird, Kori bustards, helmeted guinea fowls, southern ground horn bill, marabou stork, yellow-billed stork, lesser flamingo, martial eagles, love birds, woodpeckers and many more vultures. All these are a great attraction within the park.

Retina Hippo Pool, which is located in the central of Serengeti, this is situated where Orangi and Seronera rivers converge with over 200 playing hippos. Photographers utilize this opportunity to take photos of the large herds of hippos within the pool. This activity attracts a number of hippo lovers who take a chance in hippo viewing.

Moru Kopjes, this one of the greatest features within the park, this is a gigantic rock which rise up on the Serengeti plains and they are scattered around the visitors centre, they provide shade to the visitors with small water pools. These contain some of the African rock paints of the Masai and one of the rocks was named the “Gong Rock”, this is also a place to see both big and small mammals.

Olduvai Gorge, this found in between Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti, the gorge runs about 30miles long. A visit to this area makes an individual to remember a place where the human fossils and tools of long time ago where discovered, these human fossils are used to identify the origin of the human being. The Oldupai museum is another place to enter for more research discoveries around and this can take around 30minutes.
