Masai Mara
It’s East Africa’s most popular and best-known park, with easy access from Nairobi and a plethora of cheap accommodation options. Still about the Mara, a fabulous place for seeing big cats and all of the big five, a variety of plains game and over 300 bird species. The plains offer a rich variety of food for the dominant predators: lion; leopard; hyena and cheetah. Elephants browse amongst the large herds of wildebeest and topi, eland and buffalo, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle.
In the Mara River, hippos submerge while crocodiles sunbathe, mouths agape, on the riverbanks. From around July to October, there’s the greatest show on Earth, the wildebeest migration. Fantastic at any time, visiting the Mara during the annual wildebeest migration (roughly late June-October) though is to witness one of the undisputed wildlife wonders of the world. Mid-afternoon high tea will be served before your next activity. During your stay there are a variety of activities that can be booked on request such as a balloon safari. Accommodation still at Base camp Masai Mara.

The transfer time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Rushaga Gorilla Camp is located within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site south sector of the park.
It is the perfect base for a tracking experience as it offers luxury in the heart of the rain forest. It is an amazing place overlooking the Bwindi Forest. The Lodge is in the middle of the rain forest of the Bwindi NP. From here you have amazing views to the big impenetrable forest – from the restaurant but as well from the rooms with their big glass facades.
Lunch is served at camp. In the afternoon you can just relax and take in the fresh air or take a forest walk, which is a nice way to warm up before the gorilla tracking. Birders come thousands of miles to see the more than 350 species that live within the area. There is also rare forest elephant, giant forest hog and eleven kinds of primates, such as red tailed and blue monkey, black and white colobus, baboons and chimpanzee.
Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi
Early breakfast is served at your camp, before a briefing from your guide. Gorilla tracking commences every morning from the UWA park headquarters at 8.30 am. This National Park was established in 1991. It was then named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994. Bwindi loosely translates to “place of darkness”, thanks to extensive stands of bamboo and thick ground vegetation that hinder access by foot.
Over half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas live in Bwindi. The trek can be challenging, depending on the current location of your assigned gorilla family. The Ugandan Wildlife Authority does an impressive job of making it a safe, well-controlled and managed experience.
Experienced guides will accompany the tracking, many of who have been involved in the habituation process themselves. Once the gorillas are located, the group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. At the end of the trekking, you receive a “Gorilla Tracking Certificate” as proof of your accomplishment. Observing the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is priceless. Return to camp for dinner.
